Transparency

Representative government depends on trust.

Citizens should know who operates a civic organization, how it is funded, and how it conducts its work. SeniorsUnited is committed to being transparent about how we operate and the principles that guide us.

Why Transparency Matters

SeniorsUnited was founded to help citizens understand what Congress is doing and participate meaningfully in representative government.

Trust is essential for that mission.

This page explains who we are, how we are funded, how we operate, and how we handle the information entrusted to us.

Who Operates SeniorsUnited

SeniorsUnited, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) civic advocacy nonprofit — a volunteer-powered organization dedicated to protecting the American safety net and strengthening democratic accountability.

SeniorsUnited was founded on a simple belief: citizens should be able to understand legislation, follow the work of Congress, and communicate with their representatives without needing lobbyists or political insiders.

We created the AmericanVoters platform to provide the tools that make that possible.

Our Mission

The mission of SeniorsUnited is to strengthen representative democracy by helping citizens:

  • understand what Congress is considering
  • follow legislation connected to their concerns
  • communicate with their representatives through official channels

Our work is designed to support informed participation between elections.

Funding & Independence

SeniorsUnited is supported primarily by individual contributions from citizens who believe in strengthening civic participation.

We are not funded by corporations or lobbying organizations.

Contributions help support:

  • platform development and maintenance
  • research and plain-English legislative briefings
  • civic engagement tools for constituents

SeniorsUnited does not accept funding that would influence how legislation is explained or presented.

Editorial Independence

SeniorsUnited publishes plain-English legislative briefings to help citizens understand what Congress is considering. They are built from the official record — Congress.gov, GovInfo.gov, and Congressional Research Service summaries — and if a claim isn't supported by those sources, it isn't included.

These briefings are developed independently. The civic principles on our Values & Principles page guide the questions we surface — never the conclusions, which are always yours to draw.

They are not written or influenced by political parties, campaigns, corporations, or lobbying organizations.

Our goal is to make legislative activity clearer so citizens can decide for themselves how they wish to engage.

Governance Documents

As part of our commitment to transparency, these organizational documents are publicly available. Additional governance or financial records are available on request.

Data & Privacy

This website collects very little. We gather:

  • basic, anonymized website analytics (Google Analytics), to understand how the site is used
  • the information you choose to share when you use our contact form
  • the details needed to process a contribution, when you make one — handled securely by our payment processor, so we never see or store your card number

SeniorsUnited does not sell or trade your information.

Account features and civic-engagement activity — following bills, commenting, and contacting Congress — live on the AmericanVoters platform and are governed by its own privacy policy. For how this website handles your information, see our Privacy Policy.

Our Commitment to Citizens

SeniorsUnited exists to serve citizens.

Everything we build is designed to help people understand the work of Congress, engage with their representatives, and participate meaningfully in the democratic process.

Transparency is part of that commitment.

If you have questions about how SeniorsUnited operates, we welcome hearing from you.
